Why we built this

Learner drivers spend months in lessons. The week before the practical test, most of them ask the same question: which roads will I actually be driven on? Until Driving Routes, the answer was a mix of forum threads, instructor word-of-mouth, and outdated PDFs.

That gap mattered. The DVSA publishes pass rates by centre, and they vary from about 30% to over 70%. Most of that variation comes from the local road environment — junctions, roundabouts, and tricky merges that you can't be ready for without seeing them. Route familiarity is the single biggest variable a learner can change in the two weeks before their test.

We started by mapping the routes at one Cambridge test centre with a single instructor. We grew by adding instructors centre-by-centre. Today we publish 1,900+ routes at 370+ UK and 100+ US centres, all hand-verified by approved driving instructors or recent test-takers.

How we work

Every route is verified before it goes live. An approved instructor or a recent test-taker drives the route, records the waypoints, and submits notes. Our editorial team reviews against the centre's known routes and publishes once we're confident. Routes are re-verified whenever roadworks or road changes invalidate a section.

We are independent — not endorsed by the DVSA, the DMV, or any government driving authority. Routes are our own work, compiled with the help of contributing instructors.

Our principles

  • Verified routes only. If an instructor or a recent test-taker hasn't verified it, it doesn't go live.
  • We never sell user data. Practice sessions, pass reports, and saved centres are private to each account.
  • Honest comparisons. On our comparison and alternatives pages, we tell you when a competitor is the better fit.
  • Routes are a tool, not a guarantee. Driving skill, mirror habits and observation matter as much as route knowledge — and we say so.
